My (somewhat remote) cousin, Mabel Elizabeth Adams b. 1887, was a nun in the order of the Poor Clares.  In 1928 a group of the nuns moved from Herefordshire to a new convent in Park End Road, Workington.  They were still there in 1939 and Mabel was there at that time as Assistant Superior.  I'm trying to find out what happened to her and when she died.  There is no longer a Poor Clares community in Workington.  Where did they go, and when?
Does anyone know anything about them?  It is an enclosed, contemplative order so I'm a bit reluctant to contact them directly although I've done that while researching someone from a more open order and they were incredibly helpful.

Hi, I might have an idea. My great-grandmother is told to be a part of the Poor Clares but we couldn't find any place of residence records for the first half of her life. Then in the second half of her life, she had a residency in Spain and spent the rest of her life in a small village there but we still don't know how and why. We found the rest of her documents in Spain three years ago.

Ahh!  I hadn't considered the possibility that she might have moved to a convent outside the UK.
Time to spread the net a bit wider.
Thank you.
