Local Population Studies Society - Free Workshop
This year’s LPSS AGM and spring conference will be a workshop to launch our new project ‘404PLUS’.
When E.A. Wrigley and R.S. Schofield published their Population History of England in 1981, the underpinning aggregate analysis was based on a sample of 404 parishes which had been assembled by hand by an army of local population historians.
Since the original dataset was collected more than four decades ago, data for many more parish registers that were not among the original 404 analysed by Wrigley and Schofield have been transcribed and rendered machine readable.
LPSS is working towards making all the 404 data available via its website and is beginning a new project to gradually augment the database with new additional parishes, whilst ensuring that the data format and quality remain consistent with the original 404.
If you’re interested in the project or you want to find out more about the history behind the original 404 database join us for this workshop.
There will be presentations on various aspects of the project, and plenty of time for questions and of course we’d love to hear from anyone who wants to volunteer in collecting data once the project is live.
For more details of this event please visit our conference page http://www.localpopulationstudies.org.uk/conference/  where you can download the registration form and reserve a place.
The Zoom conference is free but you must register to receive the joining details.
