An ancient parish in West ward, Westmorland, including the chapelries of Swindale and Mardale.
Mardale, Holy Trinity, dates back to the 12th century the current church being built in the 1600’s, demolished to make way for Haweswater Reservoir in 1936, most of the contents went to St Barnabas, Carlisle, though the Jacobean Oak pulpit is as Rosthwaite in Borrowdale.
Shap, St. Michael, there has been a church on the site since about 750 AD, with a stone church in place since 1150. The current church was almost totally rebuilt in 1898.
Swindale, a small chapel, possibly there since about 1820.
