Appleby

Borough, market town and county town of Westmorland, as well as a Parish in East ward, Westmorland.
Appleby is split into two parishes, St. Michael to the North East and St. Lawrence to the South West with the river Eden essentially being the split. St. Michael is probably the earlier and includes the chapelry of Hilton cum Murton. St. Lawrence has no chapelries.
Appleby, St. Lawrence, dates from about 1150 with changes in most centuries, restoration in 1861 and 1960.
Appleby, St Michael, also called Bongate, known to be there in 1088. Now closed and a private residence.
Hilton cum Murton, St. John the Baptist, built 1853.

There was also a chapel dedicated to St. Giles at Crackenthorpe
