Upper Denton

    (also Over Denton): an ancient parish and township in Eskdale ward, Cumberland.
    St Cuthbert’s Church at Upper Denton is a good example of a medieval parish church. It is believed to be originally Norman/Saxon in origin and built from Roman stone from Hadrian’s Wall including a complete archway believed to have come from Birdoswald Fort. The church was restored about 1811.
