Kirkandrews-on-Esk

An ancient parish in Eskdale ward, Cumberland.
The current St. Andrew’s church is the estate church for Netherby Hall and was built in 1637 and rebuilt in 1776 though records
pre-date this year.
St Nicolas at Nichol Forest (Penton) was rebuilt in 1866 replacing a chapel of ease there associated with St, Andrew.
The two parishes of Kirkandrews-on-Esk and Nichol Forest were combined in to one by Sir Richard Graham pursuant to letters patent from Charles I.
From the tenor of the grant, it appears that the old church had long been demolished, and the parochial limits not accurately known.
The letters patent gave power to Sir Richard to unite and consolidate into one entire parish the old parish of Kirkandrews and Nichol Forest."

Dumfries and Galloway FHS published Memorial Inscriptions for Kirkandrews on Esk in 2007. [Thier current list however does not list them]. Their publications list is at D&G FHS
