An ancient parish in Leath ward, Cumberland.
St. James is one of the original Carlisle diocese churches and is recorded in a Papal return for 1291. There is a Norse Cross in the churchyard which must predate the 11th century. Most of the current church is 18th Century which was renovated in the 19th century.
