An ancient parish in Eskdale Ward, Cumberland. The earliest recorded date of St, Cuthbert’s is 1277, but very little of the current church dates from then as it was rebuilt in 1792. As with many buildings in this area the stones are said to come from Hadrian’s Wall. There may have been a religious building in this area from before the 7th Century the time of the Bewcastle Cross
