Arthuret

A parish in Eskdale ward, Cumberland, containing the four townships of Brackenhill, Longtown, Lineside and Netherby.
St. Michael’s was erected in 1609. Construction was paid for by donations after the old building had been destroyed by invading Scots. Unfortunately the person in charge ran off with some of the money so the tower of the church was not completed until 1690.
Some of the parish records have fire damage.
